Delivering a policy briefing on climate adaptation.
Meet Yue Hong, the Future Leaders Project Assistant who will be producing a policy briefing on climate adaptation. Yue is a current undergraduate at the London School of Economics and Political Science, studying Environment and Sustainable Development with Economics. Her interests include climate adaptation, environmental policy, and urban sustainability.
Two major national climate risk and adaptation reports were published in late spring 2026: the Well Adapted UK Report and the Independent Climate Change Risk Assessment 4 (CCRA4-IA). These reports estimated risks up to 2080 and identified areas where there are evidence gaps, as well as forecastable risks.
These reports, produced by the Climate Change Committee (CCC) and the Met Office, will be the basis for the Fourth Climate Change Risk Assessment (CCRA4), which is due to be laid in Parliament by January 2027. CCRA4 will become the basis for the UK and devolved governments to create National Adaptation Plans and programmes. There will also be conclusions that can be drawn at a regional and local level, which would also be an angle for the Project Assistant to explore.
The Cambridge Zero Policy Forum held a seminar in late June 2026 about the reports. Baroness Brown of the CCC visited to explain the findings and discussed them with the Policy Forum, a group of senior academics at the University of Cambridge
The discussion at this event will inform a policy briefing led by the Project Assistant. They will conduct reading and conversations with researchers and other stakeholders. There may be additional opportunities for the Project Assistant to contribute to compiling responses to Government calls for evidence.
