Renovating the live database which maps all Cambridge climate and nature research.
Meet Tom Waters, the Future Leaders Project Assistant working on the Climate and Nature Research Map. Tom recently graduated from the University of Cambridge with a BA in Natural Sciences, specialising in Zoology during his final year. After completing the Future Leaders Programme, he hopes to build a career in conservation science.
The map is the most comprehensive guide to climate and nature research at the University of Cambridge. The renovation is meant to make it more user-friendly for fundraising activity, attracting collaborations and potential researchers.
The work programme will include:
- Survey of the existing projects on the map
- Renovation of the case studies on the map using the content management system
- Improving the accessibility of the case study descriptions
- Adding new projects to the map
- Archiving old projects that have ended
The case studies are time-intensive and require communication and coordination with University researchers to define the problems being investigated and the benefits of projects beyond the immediate outcome.
Tom is expected to communicate results at different levels for different audiences, which include the general public and media communicators. They will gain a holistic overview of the global state of climate problems and solutions, and get greater insight into how research processes translate into social action, economic development, and policy.
He will also be expected to work with the web designer and the digital communications manager to renovate the map.
