In this infographic we explore Daniela Sanchez-Lopez’s work on lithium mining in Latin American salt flats. Lithium-ion batteries are currently required for sustainable technologies, such as electric vehicles. However, lithium extraction can have negative environmental consequences for local communities, such as potential biodiversity loss. Daniela examines government interaction with local communities in Bolivia, Argentina and Chile, recommending better co-operation with the local people.
