Shafiq leads the Energy @ Cambridge Interdisciplinary Research Centre, which links the research activities of around 300 academics at Cambridge University working in energy research. He coordinates multidisciplinary research bids and facilitating collaborations with academic and industrial researchers on projects such as energy policy, energy efficiency and sustainable energy for a resilient energy landscape.
Shafiq holds a DPhil. in Materials Science from the University of Oxford, and an MPhys in Physics with an industrial placement at Siemens in Munich analysing barrier thicknesses in silicon wafers, from the University of Bath. He has worked on a number of programmes building strategic partnerships, collaborations and networks with academia and industry at The Royal Academy of Engineering, including managing Research Exchanges with China/ India, Enterprise Fellowship and Newton International Fellowship programmes. He has also managed the postgraduate Science without Borders exchange programme with Brazil at Universities UK.
