Earth Day 2023 Photography and Poetry Competition

Are you an eagle-eyed photographer? A gifted poet?

In celebration of this year’s Earth Day (22 April), Cambridge Zero are running a Photography and Poetry Competition for all students at the University of Cambridge.

We want to recognise the wealth of creative talent we have in the University community through the lens of climate and the environment. We welcome submissions from all levels of experience.

Submissions are open now and close at midnight on Sunday 16 April 2023. Submit your photos and poems here: https://forms.office.com/e/V49US85s6g

We will celebrate the winners of the competition by posting their submissions on our website and social media. We aim to post these on Earth Day (22 April).

Theme

The theme for the competition is ‘Interdependence’. This is inspired by the recent IPCC Report (AR6), which summarises global research and emphasises the need for urgent action to address the climate crisis.

The introduction of the IPCC AR6 Summary for Policymakers reads, “This report recognizes the interdependence of climate, ecosystems and biodiversity, and human societies; the value of diverse forms of knowledge; and the close linkages between climate change adaptation, mitigation, ecosystem health, human well-being and sustainable development, and reflects the increasing diversity of actors involved in climate action.”

Submissions will be judged by our panel of judges. The panel will be looking for relationship to the theme, originality and technical quality of the submission.
